To answer your question if Buildsoft is Гўв‚¬Е“worth putting up withГўв‚¬Вќ, I eventually decided that it wasnГўв‚¬в„ўt and moved on to another software (CHS), a decision that I absolutely can tell you was the correct move for me. I think the Гўв‚¬Е“integrationГўв‚¬Вќ claim is vastly over rated. The accounting is pretty good, the job costing is fair, the estimating/take-off is not very good, the scheduling is only average at best, in my opinion. In hindsight I think it was more of one software trying to do too much and therefore not doing any one thing that well. One of its biggest claims was the Гўв‚¬Е“integrationГўв‚¬Вќ, which you mentioned. In the early-mid 90Гўв‚¬в„ўs it was one of the best, but it just didnГўв‚¬в„ўt keep up the times and very few changes or upgrades were ever made.

I used Buildsoft from about 1994-2006 and know the software well. I could write a book on this but will keep it short. I know this is a lot of information but any advice would be greatly appreciated. OTOH, what other programs could be combined with Quickbooks to get scheduling, job costing, and purchase orders if we choose to ditch Buildsoft? I guess my question is, is Buildsoft really worth putting up with? Are the capabilites worth the hassle of the program's clunkiness? I'd love to hear from anyone with experience using the program recently. We use Softplan for design work and hope to make use of that integration feature as well. I am afraid that I am going to lose control because I can't use it the same way I use QB. We like the idea of the integration but since we haven't started truly using the program to its fullest, we haven't really seen it in action. It was our goal to be using Buildsoft exclusively starting the first of the year but are reconsidering our decision.

I do the bookkeeping, A/P, Payroll, Taxes, and A/R as well as job costing but have continued to double enter everything in Quickbooks because I can get access to all my info in a second. We have created our jobs and schedules and love that feature but are generally not thrilled with the programs interface and usability. We purchased Buildsoft in July and still don't have it totally up and running. We did a lot of research and finally made a decision. We do most of the work in house and needed a solution for better project management, scheduling, purchase order creation, and job costing. I work for a small volume custom builder - doing about 3-4 major projects/new homes per year.
